Corfu, Greece — stroller-friendliness guide for parents

Greece · Updated October 2026

Is Corfu stroller-friendly?

It depends—bring both.

Corfu is doable with a stroller if you choose a flat, sandy resort, but Corfu Town's alleys and fortress, and most of the hilly island, are carrier territory.

Here's what worked for other parents in Corfu

Bring the stroller for
  • Spianada & Liston — a huge level square and arcaded café terrace
  • Garitsa Bay seafront — flat waterfront walk south of the old town
  • Sidari and Roda — flat north-coast resorts with sandy, shallow beaches
Use a carrier for
  • Corfu old town alleys — narrow, slippery marble and steps, crowded on cruise days
  • Old Fortress — long incline from the bridge, then stairs
  • Dassia and Ipsos strip — busy main road with patchy pavements, stony beaches

Corfu is greener and hillier than most Greek islands, and how easy it is depends on where you base yourself. In Corfu Town, the big Spianada square, the Liston arcades and the Garitsa Bay seafront are wide and level. The UNESCO-listed old town around them, though, is a web of narrow kantounia: cobbled or marble-paved lanes with steps in places. The Old Fortress means a long uphill push and then stairs. Out of town, the sandy resorts (Sidari and Roda on the north coast, Agios Gordios on the west) suit toddlers best. Resorts on the busy east-coast road such as Dassia and Ipsos have stony beaches and patchy pavements, and hillside villas can mean steep walks to anything. Blue city buses cover Corfu Town, the airport and nearby beaches, and green KTEL buses reach the main resorts. Away from the bus routes you'll want a hire car or taxi. Bring a compact stroller for resort strips and town squares, plus a carrier for the old town, the fortress and beach coves.

Neighborhoods that work for families

Best for families

Agios Gordios

Hotels from ~€55/nightFind stays →
Near town

Apartments with a kitchen and a shared pool are everywhere on Corfu. Check the map for hills before booking a villa.

With a stroller, choose a ground-floor room or bungalow in a flat resort within a short walk of a sandy beach. Ask for the walking route to the beach before booking anything on a hillside.

Must-see

Corfu Old Town walk

UNESCO-listed Venetian old town with the Spianada, the arcaded Liston and a maze of narrow kantounia. Keep the stroller on the squares and seafront and switch to the carrier for the lanes.

History

Old Fortress

Venetian citadel on its own moated headland, reached by a bridge from the Spianada. Big views from the top, but it's a long climb.

Kid favorite

Aqualand

One of Europe's big waterparks, at Agios Ioannis in the middle of the island, with dozens of slides and pools. Blue bus line 8 runs there. Seasonal (summer only).

Free

Garitsa Bay seafront

Flat waterfront walk along the bay south of the old town, with views back to the Old Fortress. Continues towards the Mon Repos estate and its wooded park.

Kanoni & Mouse Island

Classic Corfu view: Vlacherna monastery on a causeway with Pontikonisi (Mouse Island) behind, and the airport runway alongside, so toddlers get planes skimming in overhead. Blue bus 2A goes to Kanoni.

Treat Corfu Town as a morning outing (squares, seafront, a gelato on the Liston) and keep afternoons for the beach. On cruise-ship days the old town is far calmer after about 5pm.
