Yes, if you base yourself on the south coast's seafront: the Meloneras promenade and Las Canteras in Las Palmas are easy stroller walks, but the dunes, the mountains and the hillside resorts need a carrier or a car.
Planning your trip?
Gran Canaria works well with a stroller as long as you choose your base carefully. The smoothest walking is the seafront from the Maspalomas lighthouse to Meloneras, a wide, well-kept promenade lined with cafés, and the 3 km Las Canteras promenade in Las Palmas, where an offshore reef keeps much of the water calm. Playa del Inglés is busier and sits above its beach, so expect ramps and some steps, and Puerto Rico is flat only along the valley floor by the beach; hotels up the sides can mean a steep climb. Global's island buses are useful, but the stroller has to go in the luggage hold, so fold it and hold your baby. The Maspalomas dunes, the mountain interior and Roque Nublo are carrier territory, and a hire car with your own seat makes the island far easier.
Seven things that actually matter when you're pushing 12kg of baby + stroller through a foreign city.
Where to stay
Newer resort area at the end of the lighthouse promenade, with the easiest stroller walking on the island, a quieter beach and plenty of family hotels.
Next to the lighthouse and the long Maspalomas beach, with low-rise bungalow complexes and a flat walk to the promenade. Check the distance from your complex to the sea.
Small, calm harbour village with a sheltered beach. Lovely for a slower trip if you stay on the flat by the harbour rather than up the valley.
Bungalow complexes with a pool and a kitchen are the classic south-coast family stay. Ask for a ground-floor unit and check for steps between the entrance, pool and beach.
For a stroller, stay as close to the seafront as you can in Meloneras or Maspalomas. In Puerto Rico and Playa del Inglés, look closely at how far uphill the hotel is.
Things to do
Zoo and botanical park in the hills above Maspalomas with free-flying birds, a big butterfly house, dolphin and bird-of-prey shows. Open every day of the year.
Short boat trips run from the south-west harbours such as Puerto Rico and Puerto de Mogán. Choose a shorter, calmer trip for a baby and check the operator's minimum age.
Wide, well-kept seafront from the Maspalomas lighthouse west to Meloneras, with cafés, ice cream and sea views the whole way. Watch for bikes and scooters weaving through.
Las Palmas' city beach, sheltered by La Barra, a natural reef offshore that calms the water. A pedestrian promenade runs its full length, and it holds a universal accessibility certificate for bathing.
Look out over the protected dunes from the promenade by the lighthouse or the edge of Playa del Inglés, then carry little ones a short way in on the marked paths.
The south is sunny year-round, so plan the beach for the morning and the promenade for late afternoon. Palmitos Park is cheaper online and is a half-day with toddlers; a taxi up from the resorts is quick.

Beyond the city
Small harbour village with canals between the marina and the fishing port, a sheltered beach and a busy Friday market.
The island capital: a long flat promenade on Las Canteras, the Poema del Mar aquarium near the beach, and the historic Vegueta quarter.
Dramatic volcanic rock and pine-forest views in the island's centre. The drive is winding and the walk to the rock is a rocky trail.
A hire car is the easy way to explore; bring or reserve a car seat. Global buses link the south coast with Las Palmas, but the stroller travels folded in the hold.
